Concept for Enmore Pool public artwork

What a woman! What an inspiration!

Annette Kellerman (1887-1975) - a local hero and namesake of this new aquatic centre - was an extraordinary woman: a swimmer, athlete and vaudeville performer. Her activities included (but were not limited to) a movie career, introducing the first one-piece bathing suit, and attempting to swim the English channel 3 times.

Humming (alongside architect, Richard Healey Finlay) developed concepts for a public artwork in tribute to the famous woman.

Developed from typographic detailing of some of her inspirational words and an elongated image of her diving through the water, the artwork was designed to be experiential, subtle and beautiful: intricately inlaid into the pavement running alongside the facility.
